Charity Activity
At the initiative of Mr. Lenaers, the Honorary Consul to Flanders-Belgium of the Republic of Moldova a charity fund was created. Belgians, who were developing their business activity in Moldova, could contribute to the improvement of the situation of numerous Moldavian public organizations, such as educational institutions, orphanages, hospitals, asylums, different centers and many other organizations.
The beginning of the charity activity in Moldova dates from March 2002, when The Chamber was for the first time visited by Mr. Hugo Kusters, the president of GaM Care Belgium.

GaM Care Belgium is a non profit organization, developing different humanitarian projects in many countries of Europe and Africa. After a visit of GaM Care volunteer group to Moldova,
several humanitarian projects for Moldova were created, aimed to be implemented in cooperation with Group GL International, Chamber of Commerce and of course, numerous Belgian and Dutch suppliers to GaM Care Belgium, eager to offer goods for the formation of humanitarian lots.
Another important figure in the development of charity activity in Moldova is Mr. Walter Grootaerts, the "godfather" of humanitarian projects for Moldova. He was the one who launched a national sensibility campaign in order to awaken larger number of people to the problems of Moldova, so that they could also come into action by both financial and material support.
Year 2002 -2003
At the beginning there were items for construction and reparation to restore and to refresh residencies of organizations under protection. But the main volume of aid delivered to Moldova consists of component parts of furniture such as: cupboards, tables, beds, chairs, armchairs and mattresses - goods aimed to make somehow better and comfortable the existence of Moldavian poor people. There also were imported items of medical care and baby care.
As well, it is worth to mention other humanitarian products such as: office supplies, accessories, detergent solutions, cloths and toys.
Year 2004
Year 2004 was registered as a very fruitful and successful period in the history of Moldova-Belgium Chamber of Commerce' charity activity, as far as many crucial events took place in this time. First of all, there considerably increased the number of organizations to which humanitarian aid was offered.
Due to Moldova- Belgium Chamber of Commerce charity activity, many Moldovan children from different organizations received beautiful presents on the occasion of different celebrations. The most distinguished was Christmas celebration. Those were toys and cloths for Christmas collected by Belgian children, under guidance of Mr. Hugo Kusters.
Year 2005
In 2005, the Chamber continued its activities with new forces and willingness. The biggest event at the beginning of this year was the creation of the Committee of the Chamber for Humanitarian Aid.
Members of Committee became Mr. Sergiu Capatina, Director of Moldova - Belgium Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Luc Engelen, the representative of Group GL International in Moldova, Ms. Marcela Zbigli.
The most important issues targeted by members of Committee are the following:
- Analysis and selection of incoming requests for Humanitarian Aid
- Elaboration of Annual plans and observance of there fulfillment
- Facilitation of documents processing through all necessary institutions
- Rationalization of aid distribution process to expand the number of beneficiaries
- Improvement of general conditions of aid transportation and stocking
- Post-delivery monitoring of donated goods
- Receipt and consideration of thanking letters
Till 2005 year the storing problem was the prevalent one. But at the beginning of year 2005 "Carmez International" SRL, a "Group GL" Project - meat & sausage factory - kindly offered to the Chamber its storing spaces, the incoming humanitarian aid could be kept in perfect conditions.
A team of "Carmez International" volunteers also helped in the day to day distribution of the charity goods. So, the first steps in the Committee's activity proved to be confident and fruitful and we stay convinced that it will go on with even faster pace and always good results. Still, the development of an efficient charity activity needs additional financial resources, mainly to cover expenses related to transportation process.
Year 2006
During this year GaM Care organization donated 12 trucks with humanitarian aids.
Moldova - Belgium Chamber of Commerce and GaM Care Belgium collaborates with Mission without Borders in Moldova and Mission without Borders Belgium- Holland and America, for implementing the possibilities of importing the humanitarian aids in Republic of Moldova.
A new step of charity activity was the visit in the Republic of Moldova of GaM Care Belgium team on their mobile homes led by Mr. Hugo Kusters, the President of this organization. They had visited institutions, organizations, schools, kindergartens which had received different humanitarian goods.
October 2006, the Chamber was visited by the Honorary Consul to Flanders-Belgium of the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Ghislain Lenaers. During his visit Mr. Ghislain Lenaers received the highest honorific grade order of the Republic of Moldova "Order Stefan cel Mare" that was given by the Metropolitan Vladimir.
Mr. Lenaers received this order for his greatest merits within the charity activity and the significant support that he offers for the people from Republic of Moldova that really needs a comprehensive help and attitude
Year 2007
An important step in the charity activity for 2007 was the humanitarian aid, given to a number of kindergartens in republic of Moldova. Their situation was very stringent. The furniture of majority of kindergartens was alder than 20 years. 14 kindergartens were renovated and refurnished with the support of GamCare Belgium. A great contribution in kindergartens' refurnishing activity was made by the company IKEA - the main furniture donor in the republic of Moldova.
Mr. Wim Stesmans as representative of company IKEA, visited Moldova in September and confirmed the close collaboration that we have for years. Our partners were and will be at our side in the future projects too, which should guarantee a successful activity. The donated furniture shows a positive change of all processes that take place in the beneficiary institutions.
In year 2007, the Charity team put the focus on quality more than on quantity of the trucks. Some projects were chosen, where the needs were very high. The trucks for these projects were loaded with goods, which resulted in the most efficient way to help these projects in a short time.
Year 2008
In 2008, there were brought to Moldova 10 trucks with humanitarian aid. Because we are the only organization to bring as humanitarian furniture, thanks to donations of IKEA, the demand for furniture from state institutions are a lot. , the Government, through the Agency Material Reserves, Public Acquisitions and Humanitarian Aid asked the collaboration in solving it. Besides the projects planned for next year, the plan for the distribution for every import is made according to the requests succeed to the government.
In September 2008, the Moldova- Belgium Chamber of Commerce was visited by Inge Bennenbroek, representative of the organization Humedica Belgium vzw. During this meeting they visited institutions which have received humanitarian aid and will be included in the projects.
We are proud to mention the project for the Hospital no.1 Chisinau. The goods were donated for all the sections of the hospital. The hospital administration request for refrigerators for the preservation of medicines has been satisfied by the company IKEA has offered 2 refrigerators.
All medical institutions in the Republic of Moldova need blankets . Most of the patients use their own blankets, during their stay in the hospital. We are really thankful to the Belgian Minister of Defense, Mr. Pieter De Crem for the blankets donated to Hospital No. 1, Chisinau.
